Part 1: The Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskar

The Sun Salutation is a very powerful sequence of 12 yoga postures. It gives you a good cardio workout and tones your arms. It is also an excellent warm-up routine that you can do before performing any exercise. One of the most significant benefits you will notice after doing this sequence regularly, is the increase in your energy levels.

This sequence beats lethargy. In fact, it is probably better than most energy drinks or bars.

The lesson on Surya Namaskar will span 2 weeks. In the first week you will be taught the 12 postures that make up the sequence. You will also get hints, tips, and cautions. High quality pictorial illustrations will help you easily perform the postures.

In week 2, you will be provided with a video of the entire sequence. The video will help you master the transitions between postures.

Part 2: The Yoga Asanas

From week 3 onwards, you will be taught one yoga asana or posture per week. In total you will learn 10 essential yoga postures that will benefit your spine, tone your body, and boost your wellness. These postures will be added on to your existing routine that starts with the Sun Salutation.

Putting It All Together

Part 1: The Sun Salutation will give you the foundation for your daily routine. From week 3 onwards you will learn one new posture that you will add on to your routine.

After mastering the Sun Salutation in week 2, your daily workout will take about 10 minutes. As you keep adding on postures your workout time will gradually increase to around 30 – 45 minutes. The reason we start you off on a 10 minute routine and increase it gradually on a weekly basis, is to help you make yoga into a habit.

It takes a lot more effort to start off on a 30-minute workout routine and the probability of giving up is higher. On the other hand, doing a routine for 10 minutes is far less taxing and easier to commit to. After 2 weeks, it develops into a habit. The gradual increments do not put much additional effort on you and will keep you looking forward for more. This system will get you into a habit which guarantees consistency.
